Shipping is an additional $75.00

You will receive an email and or text message when your bird is shipped along with the tracking info.

  • We ship on Monday or Tuesday, never at the end of the week, as we dont want any live animals sitting at a USPS facility over the weekend 'waiting on their plane'.

  •  All birds are shipped via USPS. Priority Mail Express 1-3 day guaranteed with insurance up to $100.

  • Live birds usually arrive in the morning 1-2 days later at your local Post Office.

  • The Post Office will call you for pickup. Live birds never delivered to your home address, even if you used a home address for your shipping address.

Due to Covid-19 things are taking longer with us and USPS. We package our birds with this in mind including a bit of food and bedding, but delays can happen.

Our birds are healthy when they leave our farm and typically ship well, but will need fresh water immediately upon arrival and a bit of 'down time to recouperate from the stress of travel.

If there are any issues during shipment; please take photos of the box and birds, contact us immediatelly and you can also file a claim with USPS for the damage. However, you will need to submit a claim directly with USPS.

USPS Rules for Shipping Live Birds

Shipping Live Birds USPS
526.4 Adult Birds
526.41 General
Disease-free adult birds may be mailed domestically when shipped under all applicable governmental laws and regulations, including the Lacey Act, the Endangered Species Act (ESA), and regulations of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and any state, municipal, or local ordinances. Mailers must comply with all applicable governmental laws and regulations, including the Lacey Act, the Endangered Species Act (ESA), and regulations of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and any state, municipal, or local ordinances. Mailings must also be compliant with the requirements provided in USPS Publication 14, Prohibitions and Restrictions on Mailing Animals, Plants, and Related Matter, Chapter 5. In addition, each container or package must be marked as required by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under 50 CFR 14. Adult birds must be properly packaged and able to sustain shipment without food or water because liquids, moisture, and loose foodstuffs can cause damage to the shipping container, other mail, and Postal Service equipment during transport.

526.42 Mailability Requirements
Adult birds are mailable only when sent under the following conditions:
❖ The shipment is mailed using Priority Mail Express service.
❖ Each bird must weigh more than 6 ounces and no more than 25 pounds.
❖ The number of birds per parcel must follow the container manufacturer limits.
❖ The mailer must secure containers approved by the manager, Product Classification (see 214 for address).
❖ A mailing container must be used that is constructed by a USPS–approved manufacturer

526.43 Claims for Adult Birds
Indemnity may be paid only for articles that are lost, damaged, or for missing contents, and not for death of the birds in transit if there is no visible damage to the mailing container.
Postage refunds may not be available if the Priority Mail Express shipment was delivered or delivery was attempted within three days of the date of mailing as shown in the “Date In” box on Label 11. See DMM 609.

HATCHING EGGS:

  •  We guarantee the same fresh eggs that go into our own incubators that produce our chicks for our customers. Our flocks and hatchery participate in “National Poultry Improvement Plan” of the United States Department of Agriculture. However, we do not guarantee your hatchability or health of chicks due to many possible issues out of our control once they leave our facility.

  • Chicken hatching eggs are shipped on Mondays. Please have your incubator running at least three days in advance of an anticipated date of arrival. Our fertile hatchery eggs are NOT insured by the United States Post Office. We are paying for a delivery receipt on the shipment so you will need to be available and home to sign the delivery receipt. Before signing, open the box to see if any eggs are broken. If any are, please note it on the delivery receipt and call us within 24 hours. For damaged eggs we will do a ONE time refund and we will not refund or replace after the ONE time refund.

  • We do not ship eggs to Hawaii, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rice or Alaska.

  • Generally speaking, all of these breeds hatch at a 70-80% rate here at our hatchery. We would assume with shipping the temperatures are not controlled and the bouncing or shocks are not controlled so maybe a realistic expectation would be a 50-70% hatch rate after delivery but again there is no hatching rate guaranteed.

DAY OLD CHICKS:

Chicks usually arrive in the morning 1-2 days later and your local Post Office will call you for pickup. Chicks are never delivered to your home address, even if you used a home address for your shipping address.

What I Need:

  • Everything you need can usually be purchased at your local feed store. Chick starter feed, waterer, brooder (cardboard box, plastic storage bin, bathtub, or even a kiddie pool are popular), pine shavings, thermometer and a heat lamp or heat source. Baby chicks require heat of about 95 degrees their first week of life.

  • Second week you can lower the temperature to 90 degrees and so on with every week going down 5 degrees until 6-8 weeks old or when they are ready to go "outside".

How Do My Chicks Survive Shipment?:

  • Baby chicks do not need food or water for the first 72 hours of life. Ingesting their yolk sac gives them the nutrition they need to survive the journey from Feather Lover Farm's hatching facility to you!

  • Shipping day-old chicks helps ensure a safe arrival since they will usually be just 2 days old when you receive them.

  • Our packaging is professional with a brand new chick shipping box, nesting material and warm long lasting heat packs depending on the time of the year.

  • Your chicks will look like they just hatched out of a nest when you open the box and jump into your arms, thinking you are their mother hen
